The Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic in Aurora, British Columbia, provides women that are struggling with a serious addiction, stress, anxiety, or trauma with the opportunity to breathe, reflect, refocus, and get their lives back on track. It is Canada’s only women’s rehab center, bringing together many highly trained professionals to offer evidence-based treatments exclusively to high-functioning and motivated women.
Since 2004, the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic has provided mental health services to almost 5,000 women. They provide 42-hour medical care, psychology, psychiatry, nutrition and fitness support, and a range of other services to clients. The clinic employs non-12-step programming, as the majority of scientific research over the last two decades shows that 12-step programs, also called twelve-step facilitation (TSF), are not effective for most addiction sufferers. Instead of TSF, the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic offers a variety of therapies supported by evidence. This includes 24-hour medical withdrawal support, psychological care, psychiatric care, family counselling, and post-treatment coaching. All treatments put the client and their needs first to ensure every issue is addressed by the time they have completed their time at the clinic.
As a gender-specific facility, The Georgia Straight Women’s Clinic provides treatment experiences where male clients are not present. This allows the clinic to offer specialized care for women of all ages from all walks of life.
